KECOBAT has promoted best practice through the following activities:

  • Developed Homestay guidelines which were adopted by the Ministry of East African Affairs, Commerce and Tourism.
  • Develops and communicate to all stakeholders CBT best practice guidelines and standards
  • Developed codes of conduct for key components of CBT and informal tourism products and services
  • Undertaking educational activities to raise awareness within the stakeholders of the CBT best practices and the benefits of adhering to them
  • Rewarding adherence to CBT best practice by tourism entrepreneurs in Kenya
  • Educational activities to raise awareness within the stakeholders of the CBT best practices and benefits of adhering to them

About KECOBAT

The Kenya Community Based Tourism Network (KECOBAT) network was launched in August 2003 as a membership umbrella organization representing the interest of Community Based Tourism (CBT) organizations in Kenya.

It aims to facilitate information sharing; delivering appropriate technical support and advisory services; mediating and lobbying their interests to government and other relevant institutions and thereby integrating community concerns into national tourism.
