e) Policy Advocacy: KECOBAT acts as a voice of the CBTs and various levels of government since it is the umbrella association of community based enterprises in Kenya

f) Information and technical advice: We offer information regarding community tourism and mainstream tourism. Advice provided ranges from how to start and manage a community tourism enterprise.

g) Participatory Monitoring: Open feedback sessions between CBT members and their guests, tour guides, tour leaders, and tour operators (both national and international). For example, a representative of a tour operator may travel to the h) community after 10 trips to discuss successes and challenges directly with CBT members. This leads to informed, mutual, and ‘optimum power balanced’ product development.

The Kenya Community Based Tourism Network (KECOBAT) network was launched in August 2003 as a membership umbrella organization representing the interest of Community Based Tourism (CBT) organizations in Kenya.

It aims to facilitate information sharing; delivering appropriate technical support and advisory services; mediating and lobbying their interests to government and other relevant institutions and thereby integrating community concerns into national tourism.
