Objectives

  • Providing a forum for interaction and information exchange among its members and key stakeholders; 
  • Representing interests of the CBT industry in Kenya, regionally and internationally and attracting Capital Investment;
  • Promoting the development of the CBT in Kenya to improve CBT product offer and Improving CBTE’s tourism knowledge and know-how; 
  • Improvement of communication between CBT practitioners in Kenya by providing the necessary information, and holding and attending meetings and seminars 
  • Interaction with other national and international organizations involved in CBT development , to promote interests of the its members;
  • Developing a statistical database on national CBT products and services; 
  • Promoting improved quality of CBT products and Services by conforming to national and international quality standards
  • Advising the relevant Government regulatory authorities on rules, regulations and general policy pertaining to CBT trade;
  • Arbitration in any disputes between members and Strengthening institutions and economic linkages for CBTE’s.

How the Organization is fulfilling these Objectives

  • Networking communities to promote exchange of information and dissemination of the same;
  • Lobbying and advocating for their interests to government and other institutions;
  • Development, Marketing and promotion of products and services;
  • Certification of CBTI products and services;
  • Capacity building and training.

About KECOBAT

The Kenya Community Based Tourism Network (KECOBAT) network was launched in August 2003 as a membership umbrella organization representing the interest of Community Based Tourism (CBT) organizations in Kenya.

It aims to facilitate information sharing; delivering appropriate technical support and advisory services; mediating and lobbying their interests to government and other relevant institutions and thereby integrating community concerns into national tourism.
